See The Beauty of Nature – Apo Reef National Park Occidental Mindoro Philippines
According to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Apo Reef is the second largest contiguous coral reef in the world and the largest one in the Philippines. The Apo Reef Natural Park consists of the three islands. Apo Reef is the largest among the three islands.
It has a shallow lagoon with a depth of 2 meters to 10 meters surrounded by mangrove forest which serves as source of food, nursery and spawning ground of several coastal and marine species of fauna and sanctuary of birds. Its diverse corals are approximately 34 sq. km. of reef where different species of fish, marine mammals and invertebrates thrive.
Apo Reef, the largest atoll like reef in the Philippines, is a submerged platform that is a submerged of a 34 sqkm sub triangular northern m and southern atoll like reefs separated by a 30-m deep channel that is open to the west The channel runs east to west from 1.8 m to 30 m deep with a fine white sand bottom numerous mounds and patches of branching corals under the deep blue water.
The main geographical features of Apo Reef is submerged. There are three islands that mark it on the surface, the Apo Island, Apo Menor (Binangaan’; and Cayos del Bajo Tinangkapang). Apo Reef National Marine Park is Asia’s largest atoll-type reef and the world’s second largest next to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
Apo Reef is rich of marine resources with beautiful white sand and amazing greenly trees. Amazing aerial view and looks like paradise given by God.
How To Get There (Apo Reef):
You may get to the Apo Reef by means of air and roro bus transportation. By air there are some regular flights from Cebu or Philippine Airlines that takes 45 minutes of travel. From airport you may take a ride tricycle to terminal. Then take a bus or hire a van going to Sablayan, Mindoro where Apo Reef Nature Park is located.
Through roro bus transportation at the time you have a tickets from Batangas port then you have to take a ride roro bus heading to Abra de Ilog Port, Occidental Mindoro.
At the time of arrival take a ride and tell your driver heading or bound to Sablayan Bus Station which it takes roughly three hours. Upon reaching to specific destination ride a tricycle bound to Sablayan Tourism Office.
Sablayan Tourism Office where it cater and offers such information regarding Apo Reef. At this time, you may take a ride again but this time is a boat. The boat fare to Apo Reef is quite expensive which it takes Php 8,500 for this day trip or Php 9,500 for overnight good for 10 persons.
Things to do in Apo Reef Nature Park:
There are several activities to enjoy the beauty of nature by diving, snorkel and camp. You may visit the lighthouse and see the amazing views above. You may encounter and experience the mangrove forest around the island.
Since Apo Reef is an island so it is suggested to bring your own foods, paper plates, water, cups and anything. Don’t worry to stay overnight where it has guards and marines who protect the island.
The island has no resort neither restaurant so it is better to have all things before you get there in Apo Reef Nature Park.
