Travel Tips for Responsible Travel in the Philippines

Travel Tips for Responsible Travel in the Philippines

Philippines is a land of wonders, and the people are some of the most hospitable in the world. The beaches, adventure trails, islands, food, and culture make it one of your best destinations to visit – unless you have been to other parts of Southeast Asia.

The Philippines is an island country in Southeast Asia and has become a top destination for both domestic and international tourists.

This article will give you tips on how to enjoy your stay responsibly. Think about what you want out of your travel experience when planning trips or for engaging in activities like diving scuba diving that are considered “wild”. Be mindful that individuals with special needs might be following a local tradition or respecting religious customs differently from how other visitors do it.

Ask about what to do or not to do before taking a picture with a person. You might think it is harmless, but people in the Philippines may be serious when they ask you to take off your shoes or to not touch them or their pets during prayer time.

Public display of affection (PDA) is not uncommon in the Philippines, with a smooching couple being an almost everyday sight. However, kissing a person of the same gender is frowned upon, even if it is just a peck on the cheek.

Foreign visitors to Boracay would often be entertained by lounge singers and other live performers who would invite audience members to dance on stage with them.

Some of those performers can make their shows rather provocative, but they are also likely to get angry if someone takes photographs or videos during their performances.

It is good to ask permission first before taking pictures or putting your cameras away since it could be offensive to some people who are living or working in Boracay.
